Mill Creek was the site of a 1930’s Civilian Conservation Corps work camp. Historic pillars of stone are still visible at the campground entrance. The Mill Creek Recreation Area turnoff is located 20 miles south of Battle Mountain, Nevada on State Route (SR) 305 and is signed. From the turn-off you will travel four miles on a maintained gravel road to the recreation site entrance. The elevation at the recreation area is 5,200 feet. Mill Creek Recreation Area is a no fee site, open year round, offering tall cottonwood trees in a canyon setting, a pleasant spot to picnic, camp, watch wildlife, and fish for rainbow and brook trout. This popular camp ground offers 11 tent sites, picnic tables, fire rings, and accessible vault-type restrooms. Three recreational vehicle sites are also available.  Birdwatching is a popular year-round pastime at Mill Creek. Some of the species you might see during your visit include the great horned owl, belted kingfisher, various species of hawks, woodpeckers, sparrows, wrens, swallows, pinyon jays, and the all time favorite, hummingbirds. Campfires are allowed in the rings provided.
